How detext Works

Advanced technology knows when they are on the go

The detext app uses GPS  to monitor for speed. When the phone is in motion, detext automatically restricts text messages, phone calls, and other apps that may distract the driver.

Restriction levels and notification settings are customizable in detext’s browser-based dashboard, ensuring that emergency contacts can always be reached.

detext works on Android mobile phones and tablets running the Android operating system (firmware version) version 2.2 (Froyo) , or later, including, 2.3 (Gingerbread), 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
  • How much does detext cost?

  • Will detext alert me if my teen is speeding?
Yes, you can set a specific speed limit within the detext dashboard. If your teen ever goes over that speed limit, you will be notified by email and/or text message.
  • What happens to any emails, text messages or phone calls that your child gets when detext is running on their mobile device?
Any emails or text messages received while detext is active will be stored and accessible once detext detects that your child is no longer driving. An automatic text message is sent back to anyone who attempts to text them while driving to let the sender know your child will get back to them once it is safe to do so. Phone calls you receive while driving will be sent to voicemail. When a call is missed because detext is active, an automatic text message will be sent to the caller’s phone number to let them know that your child is driving and will get back to them later.
  • My child is a passenger riding in a car, and I have detext installed.  How can they use the phone?
Passenger access to the device while in motion is an option available to the administrator in charge of the phone. If this is allowed, then there will be an option on the phone for passenger access. The user will then have to solve a simple puzzle to gain access to the device. The puzzle is meant to prevent drivers from getting around the detext protection.
  • Are emergency calls (e.g. 911) and/or calls and texts from family members blocked?
No, emergency calls are always allowed, detext will never interfere with any call to emergency services. Also, family members can be set up as part of the “Safe List” in detext. Anyone on the “Safe List” will be able to call / text the device even while in motion.
  • How many mobile devices can I monitor with detext?
This free version of detext will allow you to monitor a single mobile device. In the future, detext will support up to 5 devices added to each account for $19.99/year so the whole family can be covered.
  • Will I be able to use a navigation app or music app on my mobile device while detext is active?
